Caprino lies in a
hollow at the foot of Monte Baldo, in the
amphitheatre of moraine hills between Rivoli and
Lake Garda. It is thought of as the capital of
the Baldo area, which has numerous ancient
villages and medieval boroughs rich in art and
history in a national park setting. Tourist
accommodation and facilities provide easy access
to many attractions such as the Madonna della
Corona Sanctuary at Spiazzi that figures in the
photograph.
Today Caprino is one of the biggest
centers of the Gardesano hinterland, site of numerous
services like the magistrate’s court, the tax office
(direct taxation), the hospital, etc. In the village of
Spiazzi there is the famous sanctuary of the Madonna
della Corona, well known for its sheltered position and
the destination of many pilgrimages. Because of the
vicinity of Lake Garda and the characteristic hilly
landscape, there are many villas, which were once the
residences of the Veronese Patricians (Patrizi
Veronesi);very interesting are the Palazzo Carlotti,
which is now the town hall, Villa Nichesola in Platano,
Villa Bevilacqua in Pazzon and Villa Nogarola in Pesina.
The fair of Montebaldina takes place on the 2nd of
August every year.
