Places to visit at Lake Garda

In Bardolino throughout the centuries an extraordinary historical and artistic heritage has formed. today there are still the towers and remains of the Scaliger walls, by the beautiful churches (small masterpieces of Romanesque art) and by the garden parks and Venetian style villas. Gazing across Lake Garda from the town of Desenzano on its southwest bank, the view is quite spectacular. Lake Garda’s has more in common with southern Italy.

On the southern shore, jutting into Lake Garda, lays Sirmione with its quiet cobblestone streets, thermal baths, fairytale castle, olive groves and quaint Lake Garda hotels.

Visit the old port of Torbole where you can enjoy some of the best windsurfiing in Italy. There are many Surf rental shops for beginners and experts. Another must even if it's just for a relaxing stroll are the charming old streets of Limone and the castle a Roman Villa in Sirmione.

The beautiful lakeside town of Riva del Garda is more then gentle piazze and Renaissance palazzos. A short two minute walk along the paved lake side path brings you to a long stretch of smooth pebble beach known as Spiaggia Riva del Garda. Craggy blue-green mountains dip straight into the lake at this end, and the beach spreads out in a thin, but long arc toward Torbole.

To reach the beach from the main piazza in Riva turn towards the lake and follow the left path past Hotel del Sole and continue until you see the small fortified building on its own island (know to locals as La Rocca). Continue to follow this wide path along the lakeshore. You should pass a series of wooden stalls selling handicrafts, a restaurant/ice cream bar and a small outfit renting out pedalos. The beach is immediately over the wooden bridge in front of you.
